CONCEPT

Nothing keeps this wallcrawler down. Except maybe gravity. Or ceilings.

POWERS

wallcrawler
Linus can attach himself to any surface or structure which can bear his weight and, essentially, crawl. He'll climb up trees, walk on ceilings, scale any fence. He's never quite figured out how it works -- he isn't sticky, he isn't magnetic, he's still susceptible to gravity. It just works.

PERSONALITY

Linus is immature, reckless, easily distracted, and easily provoked. He's also curious, cheerful, and ride or die loyal. He'll be the first to crack a joke to ease a difficult situation, and he never lets himself be or feel defeated for long. They say a good friend will bail you out of jail. Linus is the one sitting there next to you -- or for you. He's pathologically incapable of saying No, no matter how dumb or dangerous the idea.

In his younger years, he had something of a reputation as a rebel among the authority figures in his life, but this wasn't quite a fair classification. Linus wasn't lashing out or yelling damn the man. He simply did what he wanted, regardless of consequences at school or out in the 'real' world. He never got in any serious trouble, but curfew? The 'legal' drinking age? These things were not worth his time or interest. He also never learned his lesson -- punishment was never a deterrent. He wound up on his teachers' naughty lists early in the year, so he never got away with much and even took the blame for things that weren't his fault, but he was cheerful and charming enough that even when he annoyed them, they were fond of him, too.

He's not very good at anticipating long-term consequences because he believes he can find his way through any problem through sheer force of will. He's a bit naive and generally optimistic. He'll figure this out, guys.

APPEARANCE

6'0" and relatively athletic. Linus has a collection of scars and bruises from childhood misadventures. He's got a story for every one, and most of them are true..ish. He's blonde and sunny, more at home outside than in.

HISTORY

Linus was the third child and only boy in his family, and he was getting into mischief as soon as he could crawl. He grew up near Charleston, South Carolina, in an outwardly unremarkable, lower-to-middle-class family.

He was four when the rifts appeared, and all he knew about it was that adults thought it was important and scary. Though he wouldn't develop his own Liminal powers for over a decade, their appearance changed the course of Linus's life right away. His father Dan became obsessed--almost religiously obsessed--with rifts. He read everything he could, found his way to fanatical message boards, pored over theories and flame wars. It put a strain on the family that pre-school aged Linus could never understand, especially as his father instilled a sense of awe and adventure in him about what these rifts could be.

And then one day, when Linus was seven, his father disappeared. Police found evidence that he had joined up with a group of like-minded rift zealots to attempt to cross through one of them. They never found out for sure what happened, but Linus absolutely believes Dan attempted an unsanctioned crossover. What happened after that was as big a mystery as it was for everyone else who disappeared into a rift.

Jennifer, naturally, was furious with her husband, and began to associate everything to do with rifts and Liminals with that same source of anger. Linus just imagined the adventures Dan must have been having exploring new worlds.

Linus was fourteen when his powers manifested. It was the summer before he started high school; his mother was busy working two jobs and his older sisters didn't have time for their idiot little brother, so what was he to do but get in trouble with his buddies? He and a couple of friends snuck into a movie, then hid after the last showing and (they thought) all the employees went home. They were found, of course, by the overnight security guard (pockets full of Milk Dud boxes) and made a break for it. Outside, all three tried to scale a fence (Parkour!) but only Linus made it -- and then up the wall of the next building, and along the slanted roof until he was free and clear. He couldn't explain it, but he definitely had super powers now.

He was thrilled. He and his friends started making videos of him testing the limits of his power, but he was somehow sure he wouldn't get caught. He wasn't even thinking about the government -- he was thinking about his family. They wanted nothing to do with rifts and Liminals, but as long as they didn't know, he didn't have to worry about that. Unfortunately, for a teenager as active and accident-prone as Linus (not to mention one actively testing his own powers), he couldn't hide purple blood for long. Still, those two weeks were some of the best of his life.

Life as a Liminal was not without its complications. It sucked to get shipped off to a boarding school just as he became the coolest fourteen-year-old around, but Linus was nothing if not resilient. He could find friends wherever he went. College was never going to be for him, so he worked odd jobs until he convinced himself he, like his father, needed to know more about rifts. He's new to Enodia Station since it reopened, but he's got plans.

NOTES

Linus isn't a natural fit for rigid, disciplined scientific endeavors and explorations, but those are why he is here. He doesn't mind being a custodian for now (he certainly doesn't think the work is beneath him or anything) but it was a foot in the door for a Liminal who could've managed just fine out in the regular world. He just wants to know more.
